Recent reports of declining numbers of fruiting bodies in some parts of the world have raised concerns about the possible consequences of intensive collecting by visitors to the parks. During the period of 2006 to 2009, surveys for morels and other macrofungi were carried out in all four parks. Permanent plots (2 by 5 meters) were established in each park and these continue to be monitored by park personnel. Interestingly, among the morels collected in the park during the project were two species that appear to be new to science. These will be described in a forthcoming paper.
