General Description: Shrub or small tree, reaching a maximum height of no more than about 10 m (33 feet).

Geographical Distribution: Found throughout eastern North America and extending into Canada.

Ecological Distribution: Restricted to well-drained but moist sites with relatively rich soils, often occurring along streams.

Mycorrhizal Status: Endomycorrhizal
