Habitats For Fungi




        National Capital Region (NCR) parks (Antietam National Battlefield, Catoctin Mountain Park, C&O Canal National Historical Park and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park) encompass a number of different types of habitats, and not all types are present in a particular park. At Antietam National Battlefield, managed grasslands and what are best considered as old field communities are characteristic of large areas of the park, but forests and woodlands are also present. Various types of forests represent the dominant habitat type at Catoctin Mountain Park, the C&O Canal National Historical Park and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. For the purposes of this web site, eight different habitats types are recognized. These are described on the pages that follow.
